After a  2-0 Europa League defeat by Atletico Madrid  on Thursday, president Bruno de Carvalho criticised players for "stupid mistakes" on social media. In reply, 19 first-team players signed a statement demanding "respect". De Carvalho then called them "spoilt brats" and claimed to have suspended all 19 in a since deleted post. At a news conference on Saturday, Jesus said "there was no suspension given to anyone" and that every player was available for Sunday's match against Pacos Ferreira. "The players, president and coaching staff had a meeting, which will remain private within the team," he said. Pogba, Sanchez finally show their worth

When Manchester United went in at half-time on Saturday, trailing Manchester City 2-0, manager Jose Mourinho had a blunt message for his players who had been totally outclassed as their rivals closed in on the Premier League title. "He said 'we don't want to be the clowns who are sort of standing there watching them get their trophy'," said defender Chris Smalling. United's response was anything but clownish - they scored twice inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half to level the game and then Smalling grabbed a 69th minute winner as City's planned title celebration was put on hold. Key to the turnaround were two players who have, in recent weeks, begun to be seen as expensive problems rather than quality solutions for Mourinho. Paul Pogba, the French midfielder, had been poor in the opening 45 minutes but it was his two goals that put United back in the game. Pogba went into the game after City manager Pep Guardiola told reporters that

Eriksen earns Spurs sixth straight win

Christian Eriksen maintained his hot goalscoring streak, striking both goals in Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 win at struggling Stoke City to extend Spurs' winning sequence on Saturday. Harry Kane was back to lead Spurs in his first start for nearly a month after recovering from an ankle problem but it was their great Dane Eriksen who struck twice in 11 minutes after halftime to take his tally to five goals in three games in all competitions. He struck after 52 minutes before a mistake from Hugo Lloris on his 200th Premier League appearance allowed Mame Biram Diouf to equalise within five minutes. Eriksen then curled in a fiendish 63rd-minute freekick to which Kane claimed to have got the faintest finishing touch with his head only for replays to show the Dane had scored direct. It allowed Spurs to join third-placed Liverpool on 67 points with a sixth straight win that also extended their unbeaten league run to 14 matches. The London club also have a game in hand as they se

La Liga round-up: Iago Aspas scores hat-trick as Celta Vigo thump Sevilla

Former Sevilla striker Iago Aspas scored a hat-trick as Celta Vigo recorded a thumping 4-0 victory over the Andalusian side. The hosts took the lead in the 38th minute when Sevilla defender Guilherme Arana put the ball in his own net. Sevilla, who also scored an own goal in their midweek Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, almost levelled things up three minutes before the break but Sandro Ramirez's volley was kept out by goalkeeper Sergio. Aspas made it 2-0 after 57 minutes before netting his second three minutes later. The Spain international, who played for Sevilla during the 2014/15 season on loan from Liverpool, completed his hat-trick 12 minutes before the end to wrap up a convincing win. Alaves  took a giant step towards survival with a 2-0 home victory over  Getafe  in Saturday's early kick-off. After a goalless first half, Alaves broke the deadlock three minutes into the second half when Victor Laguardia headed home. And the hosts doub

Augsburg 1-4 Bayern Munich: Bayern crowned Bundesliga title for sixth straight season

Bayern Munich were confirmed as Bundesliga champions for the sixth consecutive season on Saturday after a 4-1 win over Augsburg. Bayern were crowned German league champions for the 28th time in their history, and it was also the sixth year in a row they have won the Bundesliga since their treble-winning season in 2013. After thrashing Borussia Dortmund 6-0 last weekend, the champagne was on ice - and Bayern recovered from conceding a bizarre early goal to wrap up the championship in style at the WWK Arena. Augsburg took a shock lead through an own goal by Niklas Suele, but Bayern roared back as Corentin Tolisso, James, who then assisted Arjen Robben, and Sandro Wagner all scored. Bayern, who have 72 points from 29 games, moved 20 ahead of Schalke 04, who have six games to play including Saturday evening's visit to lowly Hamburg SV. The victory marks a fine personal achievement for Bayern's 72-year-old coach Jupp Heynckes, who came out of retirement in October to
